Registration
The Cambodian Midwives Council is committed to supporting and encouraging midwives working in maternal and newborn care to perform their work in accordance with the Cambodian Midwives Council’s standards.
All midwives are required to register with the Cambodian Midwives Council. From 1 January 2015 onwards, midwives wishing to register must have a midwifery degree issued by the Ministry of Health or an accredited educational institution and have passed a national examination.

Renewal Registration
The Cambodian Midwifery Council has developed standards for re-registration and continuing professional development requirements for midwives in the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Cambodian midwives must re-register every 3 years. Foreign midwives must re-register every 1 year.
Re-registration is important to protect the public by ensuring that registered midwives meet the standards for re-registration and continuing professional development requirements.
A. Standards of Midwifery Practice
A Cambodian midwife practicing midwifery must use her qualifications for at least 500 hours in 1 year or 1,500 hours in 3 years prior to the re-registration deadline.
A foreign midwife practicing midwifery must use her qualifications for at least 500 hours in 1 year prior to the re-registration deadline and meet other requirements.
If the midwife does not meet the above requirements, she must attend a training course approved by the Ministry of Health or practice under the supervision of a registered midwife.
B. Continuing Professional Development Standards
Attain a minimum of 40 hours of continuing professional development within one year or 120 hours within three years that is relevant to the work being performed.
Record the learning record, including dates, summary information on content, outcomes, and number of hours completed.
Complete the re-registration application and declare that you have met the re-registration standards and continuing professional development requirements.
Respond to requests from the Cambodian Midwifery Council to conduct an audit of compliance with standards and requirements.
Role of the Cambodian Midwifery Council and Scope of Implementation
The Cambodian Midwifery Council will monitor the performance of midwives and audit selected midwives on their ongoing continuing professional development.
This standard applies to all members of the Cambodian Midwifery Council who are practicing midwifery and are registered with the Cambodian Midwifery Council, including midwives practicing midwifery, midwifery educators, midwifery managers and midwifery researchers.
This standard is expected to be implemented from 2014 onwards. Midwives should begin recording all their educational or training activities.
