Midwifery: A key contributor to Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR)

On the morning of Thursday, 26th March 2026—under the high presidency of His Excellency Professor Chheang Ra, Minister of Health, and His Excellency Derek Yip, Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia, the closing ceremony of the Annual Workshop on “Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR)” was held.

The workshop highlighted:

1. Updates and progress in the implementation of Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response (MPDSR).

2. The achievement of three Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs):

• High-risk pregnancy

• Management of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH)

• Antenatal fetal ultrasound

Recommendations from His Excellency the Minister:

To further improve outcomes in maternal and perinatal death surveillance and response, the following actions were advised:

1. Continue strengthening the systematic implementation of MPDSR to ensure it is more active and effective across all capital cities and provinces.

2. Finalize the developed SOPs officially and immediately implement them in both public health facilities and the private sector.

3. Effectively implement a monitoring and follow-up system (e.g., Telegram groups) for pregnant women, postpartum women, and newborns to ensure high-quality care and timely response.
